Another Reader Question
This month I am answering a reader question from Mary, a nurse who works 9 hour shifts in a hospital. Here's Mary's question:
"What are some ways to keep daily maintenance of trying to be and stay organized? I am great at getting rid of the unnecessary mail and newspapers. I know there must be more I could do the night before to help the day run smoother. On work days, I am more organized because my time is so limited. I pack my lunch the night before, know what I am going to wear and make sure I have enough time in the morning to eat, take care of the dog and get ready. I try to plan when I will exercise for that day. It all seems to fall apart when I have a day off!"
First of all, let's give Mary a big virtual high five! Mary has some awesome habits in place to help her work day go smoothly!
I believe that Mary likely needs a little more structure in her days off. However, I am also willing to guess that after a day at the hospital, Mary might be a little tired out and find it more difficult to keep her organizational habits in place, especially if she has a lot of distracting clutter in her home.
If Mary, or any of us, are having trouble staying organized we need to look at our keystone habits around sleep, exercise, self care and daily routines. We also need to take a good look around our spaces and clear out any distracting clutter.
Please feel free to ask Carolyn any of your organizing questions!
