Since March 2020 there has been a lot of talk about returning to “normal”. I never liked that wording, because this pandemic experience changed me. It opened my eyes to new things, or things that I choose not to see, and it broke open my heart. So instead of returning to "normal" (whatever that means?), I am "Reclaiming Routines" lost in the shuffle of the past few years. My focus is both on the practical and the spiritual. These are routines for getting stuff done AND feeling in true alignment.
Sometimes we just need a change of scenery. Most days I like to stick to my routines, stay close to home and do the usual things in the usual order. Other days, I feel the need to switch things up, just a little. This might be walking my dog someplace different, trying a new restaurant or participating in a local retreat. In January I both participated in and hosted retreats. The time away from my usual routines opened by eyes to new realizations.
Time and again, the thing that gets me and keeps me in balance is maintaining a clean and tidy home. Our homes are our sanctuaries from the busyness of the outside world. When I am at home I want to feel peaceful. Things are a lot more peaceful with clean, clear surfaces.
Summer calls for rhythm over routine. A little less structure and a lot more flow. For my family, the days and weeks of summer vary wildly.
