The Energy We Bring
Lately, our world--or at least the United States of America--feels like it is spinning out of control. Just last week, I was verbally accosted by a 60 something white man driving by the park I was in with my children. I have no idea why this happened, although I wonder if he didn't like the face mask I was wearing. It didn't make sense to the others we were with either. We will likely never know the motivation behind this disturbing anti-social behavior.
That incident brought fear and anxiety. At the same time, I felt so sorry for this poor man who, for whatever irrational reason, needed to cuss and rudely gesture at a stranger, a middle aged woman, no less. I tried to pray for him to find peace in his heart.
I also prayed for my own peace and shared this story with others in my community. I needed reassurance from people I know to be kind and considerate. This was the first time in my life that something like this happened. Hopefully, we won't encounter any more adult bullies, as I know in my heart that most humans are loving and kind.
This upsetting occurrence reminded me to be aware of the energy I bring to my family and to others I encounter. Fear and anxiety isn't the vibration I want, certainly not for any length of time. Here are a few things I am doing to get back on track and bring peaceful, calm energy to my family.
Morning Practices:
In theory, I am getting up every morning at 5 a.m. and doing an elaborate morning routine. In reality, most mornings consist of a ten minute meditation followed by about five to ten minutes of journaling. I recently discovered the 10 minute silent timer from Declutter Your Mind. For journaling, I loosely use The Five Minute Journal template in a dot grid notebook with extra thick 160 gsm paper. On days when I actually haul my behind out of bed at 5 a.m., I will add in a bit of yoga, reading or writing in the morning.
Eating Well:
In the Northern Hemisphere this time of year is so good for eating well. Fresh fruits and vegetables are abundant at the grocery store and farmers' markets. The stores are well stocked again and we are eating through our panic buying stockpile, while being careful not to over buy. We are so grateful to have plentiful and varied food.
Getting Outside:
Having a large dog in the home is a good incentive to get outside every day. We always go for our morning dog walk. Along with getting up earlier, I am working on getting out in the garden more to pull weeds and soon, harvest vegetables from our patch.
Keeping our Home Tidy and Clean:
With the kids home all the time, keeping our home tidy and clean is becoming increasingly challenging. The kids' responsibilities are increasing in this area. I do my best to clean regularly and take care of little messes when I see them. As much as I don’t want to clean, it brings me peace to live in a tidy home.
What is bringing you peace and joy in these uncertain times? I would love to hear from you!
All my best,
Carolyn
