All in voluntary simplicity
In the end, all the things we collect throughout our lives have very little meaning or value to others. Thinking of this reminds me to stay on the path towards a more minimal lifestyle. I don't want my stuff to become a burden to myself or anyone else.
Maybe you have experienced this type of slow healing. It's new to me. It is changing how I see everything: what's important, what's not important, how I use my time and (limited) energy. It's also changing how I approach the new year.
Last month, I neglected to write to you. It wasn't planned neglect, as this is an entirely new concept to me that I want to share with you this month. Aptly, it's quite appropriate for this time of year when so many extras land in our lap.
A lot of not so big tasks, sometimes feel big to me. Can you relate? Almost always, these "big tasks" are quite easy when we just sit down to do it.
How are you doing as we transition into a time change and the coming winter season? While transitions can be challenging for myself and my family, I love the opportunity nature gives us to stop, look and listen. For me, the cold dark days are a great time to turn inward. I enjoy the cozy season and the slower pace.
For me, starting my day in as much silence as possible is always nourishing to my soul. However, my home is no monastary or ashram. My kids are noisy, our dog takes his watchdog duty seriously and my husband does what he does. I have to be very intentional in order to carve out the solitude I crave.
These can be hard times to keep a positive mindset, with many wrongs in the world and great suffering happening everywhere. At the same time, by taking care of ourselves, we are in a better position to right wrongs and to alleviate suffering. We can start with ourselves and work our way outward.
Ever since "Tidying Up with Marie Kondo" came out on Netflix earlier this year, it seems that everyone is talking about KonMari again.

I hope we are all are feeling well, at peace, confident and in control in this new year. If we are not feeling well, maybe it's time to look after ourselves a bit more in 2019. I am not referring to any crazy new year's resolutions or extreme challenges, just taking care of ourselves in a nicer way. Let's call this "feeding our souls". It's a kind of self-care wrapped in everyday simplicity. No expensive trips to a spa required.
